Mr. Nelson, let me welcome you to our show, Go Games is like a household name today, at least with the younger generation. Tell us what exactly does your company do?

Nelion: We are one of the biggest developers and publishers in the gaming industry.

We develop games for consoles as well as desktop computers and portable gaming devices. Gaming! That sounds interesting. A few years ago, many would consider

entertainment? A bit? Oh, I can go on for atleast ten of your episodes; maybe more! Gaming is one of the forms of interactive entertainment. Interactive, as the name suggests, is a form of entertainment in which the user influences the outcome of events. The gaming industry is not too old, but what most of us would agree is that it became a phenomenon in the 1980s when games, such as PacMan took the world by storm with its simple, yet interactive gameplay. Ever since, the interest in gaming has not only spread worldwide, but also spawned a whole new industry which, today, is larger than the movie industry. Mr. Nelson: Yes, I'd love to. I'd say technology has to be credited for where we ar

today. Although computer games first appeared in the 1950s, the firsundergone radical transfo what is today,

Microprocessor Technology evolved to support 3D rendering and GPUs were born. A GPU is a processor specially built for rendering display on the screen. Earlier all the graphics were handled by the CPU but with the advent of GPUs, this load was off the CPU. Developers quickly latched on to the new technology the first time, one could play 3D games!

Creating a game, now, required an experienced team incl programmers, level designers, artists and testers. Developers began c games in multiple genres such as sports, racing, shooting, strategy playing, etc.

Further improvements in graphics processing technology en developers to create games with special effects such as shadows lighting and thus, provide a truly cinematic experience.

This was when the gaming industry began to threaten the movie indu With so many capabilities, developers started creating fascinating worlds. This trend has continued till date and we now have games have complete story lines and even background music! Some games successful that movies are made based on them.

Me Nelson: That's a difficult one! There are so many people who have inspired me in different ways, but one name that triggered me to chase my dream is Ralph Baer. He filed one of his many video game patents on 21 August 1969. This one was specifically for creating a Television Gaming Apparatus and Method.'

So Sir, any message for our present generation?

Mr. Nelson:

Most of the video games are creative and designed with the intention of providing good entertainment. This offers the users a chance to foster their potential for creativity, and also serves as a great medium to get rid of stress for children as well as for elders.

Once a gamer masters a game, her/his confidence level is boosted. Children develop good hand-eye coordination over a period of time. Gaming teaches some essential skills like strategic thinking, innovative thinking and co operation. It also creates investigative skills amongst children. These games are of educational value. Most importantly, video games familiarise one with technology.

All good things said and done, but it cannot be denied that video games hav some negative shades too. These can easily be overcome if this good thing
